Trip Overview

This is an exclusive Bhutan tour covering important cultural and spiritual destinations of Paro and Thimphu. The tour stretches for four nights and five days in this Himalayan kingdom.

Itinerary

    Day 1

    Arrive paro - Thimphu

    Once you reach Paro, you will be received by the tour representative at the airport. From the airport, you will be taken on a road trip to Thimphu. The road trip stretches for 90 minutes covering 55 km. On the route, the tourists will stop at Chuzom to visit three different stupas (Tibetan, Nepalese and Bhutanese) of the region. Once you reach Thimphu, you will be checked into a hotel. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan, and a hotspot of religion, commerce, and culture. After a brief rest and refreshment, you will be taken on a sightseeing tour to the city, which covers Tashichho Dzong Fortress which is the site of throne room of the monarch, center of religion and government, and today, it is the seat of the Chief Abbot, Je Khenpo. In the evening, walking tour of Thimphu main street, market region exploration, and so on. Overnight stay in Thimphu hotel. (Altitude 2,320 m)

    Day 2

    Thimphu Sightseeing

    After breakfast, the sightseeing starts. You will be taken on a road trip to Buddha Point, also known as Kuensel Phodrang. This site holds Bhutan’s largest Buddha statue. It is an important pilgrimage site in this region. After spiritual exploration and panoramic view spotting at Buddha Point, you can spend some time exploring the views of the valley. Later, you will be taken to King’s memorial Chorten, where you will watch people circumambulating as they murmur chants and spin the prayer wheels. This is a monument for world peace and its prosperity, built by King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Next, you will visit the exhibition of art and lifestyle at Textile museum. At this museum, you will find collection of weaving techniques, local attires, and other exhibitions. After lunch, you will visit Folk Heritage Museum dedicated to the rural history and folk heritage of Bhutan. You will find exhibits, educational programs, and documentations regarding the folk and rural life of the country. Later visit Institute for Zorig Chusum known for traditional art and craft institute, which offers a professional course on the traditional 13 arts and crafts of the culture. During your visit, you can find students taking part in the learning program. Later, you will be taken on a drive through the Takin Reserve to spot Takin, Bhutan’s national animal looks like a cross between a cow and goat. If you wish, the rest of the evening can be spent at government run local crafts bazaar and handicraft emporiums, where you can enjoy souvenir hunting for items like Hand Woven Textiles, Thangka painting, wood carvings, ceramic articles, masks, jewelries, and others. Overnight stay in Thimphu hotel.

    Day 3

    Thimphu - Paro

    After breakfast, you will check out from the hotel and take a road trip to Paro through Simtokha Dzong. Simtokha Dzong is an important site of tantric education and one of the ancient fortresses of Bhutan. After you reach Paro, you will be taken to a hotel, where you will be checked in. After some rest, you will be taken to Ta Dzong which was built to serve as a watchtower, but it is today the site of National Museum. This museum holds collection of ancient weapons, Thangka painting, armor, historic artifacts, textile, and others. Later visit Rinpung Dzong meaning the fortress of heap of jewels. This structure has a grand history and today, it stands as an architectural beauty with wooden galleries, interesting illustrations of Buddhist lore on the walls such as four friends, the wheel of life, the old man of long life, scenes from the life of Milarepa, Mount. Sumeru and another cosmic Mandala Overnight stay at hotel in Paro.

    Day 4

    Paro Sightseeing

    After breakfast, you will be taken on a road trip to Taktsang Monastery, which would take five hours including the walking trip. Taktsang is one of the famous monasteries in the country. In the afternoong, you will visit Drukgyel Dzong (17th century fortress in ruins). See here beautiful typical Bhutanese farmhouses which is colorful, traditional built (without using a single nail) and decorative. Later, you will be driven back to Paro along the route covering Kyichu Lhakhang temple. This is a 7th century temple built as a group of more than 100 temples by King Songtsen Gampo. This structure marks the beginning of Buddhism in Bhutan. After reaching Paro, in the evening is up to you. You can enjoy shopping or walk through the city center of Paro. Overnight stay in Paro hotel.

    Day 5

    Paro Departure

    After breakfast, the checkout formalities start. This is the end of the tour. The representative will drive you to the airport to catch the flight back to your destination.
